South Africa wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock might pull out of IPL 10 due to injury. The left-handed batsman had suffered a finger injury in the second Test against New Zealand last week and will be missing the third and final Test too due to the injury.
De Kock’s 91-run knock helped South Africa swing the momentum of the Test in their direction. However, the injured finger has caused trouble for the visitors. The 24-yar-old missed the practice session on Wednesday, indicating that he might not take the field when the third Test begins.
There are no reports yet whether De Kock is going to miss out on IPL as well but looking at the injury, it seems that there is less chance that he is able to recuperate fully from the injury. South Africa manager Mohammed Moosajee, while speaking to the media, said, “There is every likelihood he will pull out. Every time he catches the ball, stress goes on that area. He is going to need a period of recovery.”
The fact that IPL 10 is just less than two weeks away makes it even more difficult for De Kock to play in the tournament. Also, right after IPL, there is Champions Trophy and it will be interesting to see whether Cricket South Africa is willing to take that risk with such an important player in the side.
If De Kock misses out, he will join the likes of JP Duminy and Dale Steyn, who too are missing the tournament for different reasons.
