Ace Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has reacted to Australian legend Steve Waugh calling him the ‘Bradman of bowling’, saying its nothing but a great headline for the media to grab, but still a proud moment for him. Steve Waugh had earlier heaped praise on the top ranked ICC Test bowler in the world, claiming his amazing numbers made him the Don Bradman of bowling.
Proud moment for him
Ashwin also returned the praise for the Australian legend and said such high praise from a player of his caliber was a proud moment for him and especially his father. Ashwin speaking to Times of India, said, “For the media, it’s a great headline to grab. For me as an individual who wanted to play one Test for India, it does mean a lot as well, more so because it’s coming from Waugh -somebody who changed Australian cricket with the way he led and played the game. Even though it’s a proud moment for me, I don’t live over it or eat my lunch or breakfast over it. But I feel happy for my parents -especially my dad reading such statements in the newspaper is a huge thing for him and I can see it in his eyes.”
Ashwin also said that he was looking forward to the series against Australia and was expecting a very tough series. “We will try to make it 1-0 and take it from there. Trust me, it’s not going to be easy,” he added.
The anticipation for the series between India and Australia is heightening and it promises to be a cracker of a series.
