England Women continued to make giant strides under the captaincy of Heather Knight as they managed to thrash Pakistan Women by 212 runs. In the second ODI played in Worcester, Pakistan put England to bat and that was the beginning of their worst nightmares. Lauren Winfield and Tammy Beaumont put on a record-breaking opening stand of 235 and in the process, both the openers brought up their respective tons as well.
When Maham Tariq brought down the downfall of both the openers in one over itself, it did nothing to give Pakistan relief as eventually, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise for England as Natalie Sciver came on and played one of the most scintillating innings of her life. She picked the leg side as her base to strike down mighty blows and scored 54 out of her 80 runs on the on the side.
It also turned to be the best ever strike-rate in an innings in Women’s ODIs. ( minimum 50 runs) Heather Knight, who came up with an all-round, Player of the Match performance in the earlier ODI in her first stint as captain, taking over Charlotte Edwards, didn’t disappoint either with a cameo of 26 in just 14 balls. England Women went to make their highest ODI score ever of 378 and it looked like Pakistan Women were already out of the game in the half-way stage.
In the run-chase, Pakistan started off wobbly and lost their openers inside 6 overs. The English Women continued to make breakthroughs in the middle order and Pakistan were bowled out for a miserly 166 runs, hereby handing England a massive victory of 212 runs. Next game, which is also the last of the Royal London one-day internationals, is up in Taunton on the 27th June. While Pakistan Women will be hoping to take some sort of consolation from the already lost series, the ruthless and a revamped English side will be gunning for a 3-0 whitewash.
