Fully fit from his knee injury, Indian ODI and T20I opener Rohit Sharma has been named the captain of India Blue side in the Deodhar Trophy tournament. The Indian selectors also named Parthiv Patel as the captain of the India ‘Red’ side. The third team in the tournament will be the winner of the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament, Tamil Nadu, who beat Bengal in the final on Sunday.
Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh will also be playing the Deodhar Trophy as a part of the India blue side. Other Indian veterans Yuvraj Singha and MS Dhoni will be missing the action as they will be resting before the Champions Trophy. The major exclusion from the 28 players who will form the two teams is Suresh Raina. It seems now that selectors have had enough of Suresh Raina in the 50-over format and they are exploring better options.
Interestingly Shikhar Dhawan has been given a big chance to prove his mettle in the tournament alongside Ambati Rayudu and Manish Pandey. This tournament will also be a great chance for Delhi wicket-keeper batsman and captain Rishabh Pant to cement his place in the senior side. A good performance with the bat might just give him the much-needed push to get selected in the squad for the Champions Trophy. The Deodhar Trophy will be the last chance for all the major Indian players to show their potential in order to get selected in the squad for the ICC tournament to be held in England from June 1 to 15 this year.
