The IPL 2019 was a mega-saga of twists and turns, close finishes, and an enthralling final. So many players put their bodies on the line to pull off some spectacular catches on the field and so on.
Every player was seen giving their absolute 100% for their team. A story about one such legend has circulated and caught our eye. We are talking about former Aussie and Chennai Super Kings opener Shane Watson.
The 37-year-old almost pulled off a stunning victory for the Yellow Army with is 80 off 59 deliveries. He did get a few lucky breaks as there were a couple of catches that were dropped by the Mumbai Indians players. However, what we know is that the player was injured during the game and still continued to bat.
Harbhajan Singh posted a picture on his Instagram story revealing a bloodied knee of the Australian:
“Can you guys see the blood on his knee.. He got 6 stitches after the game..Got injured while diving but continue to bat without telling anyone,” Harbhajan wrote on his Instagram story.
The picture clearly shows the bleeding knee of Shane Watson. Harbhajan claimed that the batsman suffered the injury while trying to dive to avoid getting run out. However, what’s gritty is that Shane still went on to play his entire innings and did not inform anyone about the injury.
Bhajji also added that the Australian had to get six stitches to treat the wound that he had suffered. One can only imagine the sportsman spirit and bravery of Shane Watson. It is slightly unlucky how all his efforts still went in vain and Mumbai Indians clinched their 4th title with a last-ball victory.
One thing is clear, Shane Watson is a great fighter and so are the Chennai Super Kings, it will be exciting to see them turn up as a stronger unit next season with this victory being snatched out of their grasp!
