A move which has been long rumoured has been finally confirmed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad as it has been made official that Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan will ply his trade for the Delhi Daredevils next season. The Hyderabad-based franchise have acquired the services of all-rounder Abhishek Sharma, Vijay Shankar and left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem in return.
Dhawan has been associated with the Sunrisers since 2013 but he will now return to the franchise where he began his IPL career in 2008. It was reported that Dhawan was unhappy with the price which he was brought for last season and was agitating a move away from the franchise.
The move has been confirmed in a statement by Hyderabad, which read:
We have traded Shikhar Dhawan to Delhi Daredevils for Vijay Shankar, Shahbaz Nadeem and Abhishek Sharma. We thank Shikhar for his contribution to the team over the years and wish him the very best.
Delhi Daredevils also confirmed the news and were thrilled to add a quality player like Dhawan to their ranks. A statement by them read, “We are thrilled at the prospect of having Shikhar turn up in DD colours for the next season of the IPL. Shikhar has had a hugely successful IPL career and will be an invaluable addition to team DD with the wealth of experience he brings. The Delhi fans love seeing their local boys in action and we’re sure they will get lots to cheer for this season with players of Shikhar’s caliber in the team.”
With a lot of time still left for the commencement of the league, big moves have already started taking place in the IPL.
