Team Indian captain Virat Kohli is on the verge of accomplishing yet another batting landmark ahead of India’s first T20 international against Ireland on Wednesday.
Kohli needs just 17 runs to become the fastest man to 2000 runs in T20 Internationals. Kohli has at the moment scored 1983 runs at an average of 50.84 in 54 innings.
Kohli is currently fourth in the all-time list of highest run-getters in T20 cricket behind the New Zealand duo of Martin Guptill (2271 runs) and Brendon McCullum (2140 runs) and Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik (1989 runs).
McCullum currently leads the list, having reached 2000 runs in his 66th innings. Guptill is next in the list as he achieved the milestone in 68 matches.
India will play two T20I matches against Ireland before taking on England in a full-fledged series. Kohli and Co. will face England in three T20Is, three ODIs, and five-Test matches.
