Indian captain Virat Kohli is unstoppable these days, both on and off the field. His good run with the bat as well as captain has benefited him massively, not only as a cricketer but also as a brand. Virat Kohli’s brand value as per a report published by Duff and Phelps in October 2016 is estimated to be around $92 million. This is a massive boost for Virat Kohli, who has become the hottest property in world cricket in the last two years. Also, he is only next to Shah Rukh Khan in terms of brand value.
Aviral Jain, director of Duff & Phelps, which is a global brand and corporate finance advisory firm, said that Virat’s consistency with the bat has helped him become a big brand.
“The track record of a sports player has a direct bearing on his attractiveness as a brand endorser. Given the consistent and unbeatable record of Virat Kohli, companies that want to position themselves as a market winner will definitely look to sign him on as a brand ambassador.”
Virat’s success story is not a secret for anyone. If there is one thing that makes his stand out from others, it is his undying hunger to score runs and remain in the middle with all the vigour and passion. Not surprising that he has become such a huge brand in the market.
Tuhin Mishra of Baseline Ventures, a sports marketing, entertainment and licensing firm said:
“Performance on the field improves the perceived value of a brand ambassador. After Virat became captain of the team across all formats, his value easily went up by 20-25%.”
The upcoming Test series between India and Australia is Virat Kohli’s next target and there are many records waiting to be broken with his bat.
