The day 2 of the Ranchi Test began on a hilarious note when a Umesh Yadav delivery broke the bat of Glenn Maxwell on the very first ball of the day.
Maxwell, who started the day, played a defensive shot on the first ball bowled by Umesh but saw his bat breaking into two pieces. Interestingly, the ball touched had touched the middle part of the bat. Maxwell was a little surprised by looking at his bat. Umesh, on the other hand, saw the light side of it and showed his biceps to the batsman. Both the cricketers then exchanged smiles and moved on.
This is what happened on the first ball of day 2:
The bat might have broken but Glenn Maxwell continued his beautiful run in the match with the new willow in his hand, scoring his maiden century in Test cricket. With this century, it seems Australia’s hunt for a solid number 6 batsman in their batting lineup is over. Maxwell scored 104 off 185 balls, before edging one into the gloves of Wriddhiman Saha off Ravindra Jadeja. This was an innings of substance by the ODI and T20I specialist for Australia, who proved that if given chance in the longest format of the game, he can be as good as he is in the shorter formats.
Australia are in a decent position, scoring over 400 runs thus far. India will need to bat well, if they want to win this match.
