Winning the World Cup is what every cricketer dreams of when he starts playing the game. While many cricketers have realised their dream, many have not yet laid their hands on the coveted trophy. The World Cups have seen many thrilling matches in the past and here, we take a look at those matches which ended in a nail-biting tie.
On June 17, 1999, South Africa had a golden chance to make it to their first ever World Cup final, when they bowled Australia out for just 213 after inviting them to bat first. However, despite Lance Klusener’s late heroics, the match ended in a tie.
Since Australia were above South Africa in the points table in the group stage, they progressed and went on to beat Pakistan in the final.

Riding on Jeremy Bray’s unbeaten 115, Ireland put u a competitive score of 221 from their 50 overs against Zimbabwe. The match went down to the wire and a run out off the final delivery with 1 to win, ensured that the match ended in a tie.

In a high-scoring affair India took on England in Match 11 of the ICC World Cup 2011. India rode on Sachin Tendulkar and scored 338. In their chase, England captain Andrew Strauss led from the front with his 158 and threatened to take the game away from India.
However, India pulled things back and ensured that the match ended in a nail-biting tie.

In Match 40 of the ICC World Cup 2003, Sri Lanka and South Africa, the match was stopped after 45 overs and South Africa had reached 229-6, chasing 269 for a win in a must-win game.
However, the match did not resume and the revised target showed that South Africa needed 230 to win and as a result the match was declared as a tie. South Africa crashed out of the tournament.
This was Shaun Pollock’s final match as South Africa captain, he handed the mantle to a 22-year-old named Graeme Smith.
