English batsman Jos Buttler continued his red-hot form with a 94 not out as Rajasthan Royals thumped Mumbai Indians by seven wickets here on Sunday to boost their chance of qualifying for the Indian Premier League (IPL) play-offs.
After Mumbai posted 168/6, thanks to opening batsmen Suryakumar Yadav (60) and Evin Lewis, Buttler registered his fifth consecutive fifty, which contained five sixes and nine fours, to guide his team to seven-wicket victory with two overs to spare.
The loss left three-time champions Mumbai stranded at 10 points from 12 games, while Rajasthan took their tally to 12 after 12 games.
The Jaipur-based outfit needs to win its remaining two games to qualify for the play-offs, while Mumbai's fate is not in their hands and will have to depend on the performances of other teams.
After England international, Ben Stokes trolled Kevin Pietersen over his 'country over club' comments regarding Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes leaving IPL finals for international commitments, Joe Root and Jos Buttler have taken to Instagram to troll Kevin now.
Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler were always aware of the fact that even if their respective teams, Rising Pune Supergiant and Mumbai Indians qualified for the finals, they'd have to leave that to join the English camp in Spain, who are undergoing a training camp in preparation for all the all-important Champions Trophy at home, starting June 1st. Kevin Pietersen is someone who's always opposed to English players not playing enough IPL but off-late, Andrew Strauss who is England Cricket Board's chairman, has relaxed especially since England's failure in the 2015 World Cup. The likes of Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler had played the entire season last year and with Jason Roy and Ben Stokes making their debut this year with a heavy pay, things are only looking good for English cricket in limited overs format.
At the half-way stage, Hashim Amla’s brilliant century would have put Kings XI in a winning position but once the pair of Nitish Rana and Jos Buttler stepped their foot onto the ground, a mauling followed and Kings XI were left reeling, shattered and battered with MI winning comfortably by 8 wickets with stunningly, 27 balls still left to go. Mumbai Indians keep having different players winning games for them. It started off with Pollard then moved to Parthiv, Rohit and Rana before Jos Buttler joined the bandwagon today.
After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma had no hesitation to field first, going in with an unchanged team. Mumbai Indians have also stood out this season in terms of team combination, keeping the core of the team almost unchanged. Kings XI had a massive overhaul in their team, making four changes.
