The brand value of cricketers in India is insanely sky high and at par with Bollywood stars; and in few cases, even more. The cricketers, who know the fact, even know how to encash their popularity to swell up their bank balance. As their professional years are limited, they invest their huge pool of earnings in business ventures and one such successful investment that many of them get into is having their own sports lifestyle brand. Few classic examples would be Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh.
However, not many might be aware that even Harbhajan Singh owns his own sports lifestyle range by the brand name ‘Bhajji’. If you think the bowler is a new entrant in the business, you are highly mistaken. Around 200 sports goods store across India are selling ‘Bhajji’ products, and this is not it – the cricketer also has an exclusive store in Toronto, Canada.
Though the face of the brand is Harbhajan, one of the main brains working behind the whole product range is the cricketer’s better half, Geeta Basra.
Started with the aim to provide best affordable cricket gear to budding cricketers in the country, Bhajji has now become a multi-crore international cricket gear, apparel and lifestyle brand within five years of its launch.
Bhajji is also the official kit partner of Canadian cricket team, along with several local Ranji teams such as Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal.
The company registered a turnover of Rs 7 crore in 2017 and aimed to cross Rs 18 crore in the current financial year. Looking at the steady growth of the brand, one can definitely say that it’s here to stay.
