With almost a month left for the 2019 Indian Premier League, the franchisees are speeding the process of closing sponsorship deals. Currently, four IPL franchisees are in the market to sell their title sponsorships. According to reports in Insidesport, three-time champions Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab have their premium sponsorship up for sale.
The cash-rich league, which is like the ‘Super Bowl’ for brands and sponsors in the county, will kickstart on March 23 with defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Sunrisers Hyderabad owned by the SunTV Group had failed to get the title sponsors last year and the team eventually had to don the logo Red FM 93.5 Radio. This year though the Hyderabad based team will be looking to wrap up the elusive sponsorship support before the start of the tournament.
Samsung, who were the title sponsors of Ambani backed Mumbai Indians, ended their association with the team, while Eros Now called off their association with RCB after one-year. Kings XI Punjab sales team is apparently engaged in negotiations with at least three brands.
The other four franchises – Chennai Super Kings (Muthoot Finance), Kolkata Knight Riders (Nokia), Rajasthan Royals (JK Lakshmi Cement) and Delhi Capitals (Daikin) – continue with the existing brand association on the front of their team jerseys.
