On this day, back in 1994, during the 2nd ODI of the series against New Zealand at Auckland, a master-stroke decision came from captain Mohammad Azharuddin to promote Sachin Tendulkar to top order in the batting line-up. Although, India were chasing only 143, Tendulkar blistered the Kiwi bowling attack with his 82 off just 49 balls at Eden Park. This knock included 15 fours and 2 sixes and it helped India chase down the target in just 23.2 overs. Primarily, Danny Morrison and Chris Pringle were the bowlers who faced the wrath Tendulkar’s brilliant batting. Since then, Tendular barely batted at any other position and went on to amass more than 15,000 runs while opening in ODIs.
