Over the past couple of years, the whole of England has fallen in love with their football national team manager Gareth Southgate. He has not only turned around the fortunes of the national team, bringing in some exciting young players but has also stood out as a unifying figure in terms of turmoil for the country currently dealing with the demons of Brexit.
Southgate with his simplicity in terms of his clothing has also become some of a fashion icon popularizing the ‘waistcoat’ around the whole country. Such was the craze around the waistcoat after the 2018 FIFA World Cup that a custom Christmas jumper was designed based on Southgate’s waistcoat.
Southgate has now continued the trend by wearing a camouflaged jacket while appearing on popular adventurer Bear Grylls’ show, which closely resembled a waistcoat which he wears during England’s matches.
Southgate also made fun of himself and his penchant for wearing a waistcoat on the show, telling Grylls in the trailer released, “I put the waistcoat on and I said to my son, ‘Do you think I can get away with wearing this?’ He said, ‘Yeah, it’ll be fine. Nobody will notice!”

In the show, Southgate’s endurance and fitness were tested to the extreme by Grylls. In the show based on survival, Southgate had to accomplish many tasks including climbing some dangerous hilly terrains.
Southgate is not the first sports-based star who has appeared with Bear Grylls on a survival mission though. A few months earlier, tennis legend Roger Federer appeared along with Grylls in a stint which made many headlines.
