We are all used to seeing leaks of new kits before upcoming seasons in the world of sports. Some win our hearts but don’t turn out to be true and some kits are just painful. Here is one new look for English football giants Manchester United that is rather very interesting.
Ahead of the upcoming 2019-20 season, photos of the new kit for the Reds was leaked online on a blog named – Todo Sobre Camisetas (which translates to ‘All About Shirts’ in English).
According to the photos, the new red look pays tribute to the new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with reference to his iconic last-minute winner against Bayern Munich in 1999.
The jersey shows a small print that is sewn onto the top of the shirt in a nod to the manager. On a bright red canvas with a black trimmed collar, black labels have been placed on the sleeves.
Each of these labels read minutes or key moments in United’s 1999 trebble-winning season. Namely, the dates the Reds won the Premier League, FA Cup, and the Champions League and so are the time stamps of the two goals scored by club legend Teddy Sheringham and Solskjaer in the epic final comeback against Bayern Munich.
If the leaked jersey is to be worn by players next season, the legacy of one of the most decorated times in the clubs history will be displayed, a notion both emotional and nostalgic for every United fan.
The kit also shares striking similarities with the jersey worn by Solskjaer in the trebble 20 years ago. While it has a more simple design on the torso to this season’s shirt, the shoulder is replaced by a darker shade of red from the black stripes from the iconic shirt back then.
The crest is imprinted in royal gold and features a black backdrop that pays homage to the 1999 look. The kit is completed with a pair of white shorts with red stripes.
According to the leaked images, German giants Adidas remain the sponsor, having agreed to pay United a massive £750 million from 2014 to 2024.
The leaked images might just not make the cut, but if it does, every United fan around the globe will make sure their collection doesn’t miss this historical look.
