Liverpool and England cricket team owe a lot to Prince Charles. The world knows Prince Charles’ love for sports. Charles, even at 67, is an avid racing horse racing fan. But chances are bleak that the Prince of Wales knows that he is an important string between the two sporting co-incidences. Both of the sporting occurrences also have a lot to do with his two marriages at two different stages of his life and has somehow, benefitted the sporting teams of England as well.
The year 1981 and 2005 are very special to Prince Charles and these were the years when the Prince got married. Liverpool and England cricket team are the two teams which benefitted the most on both these occasions when Prince Charles married. In 1981, Prince Charles married Princess Diana. This was the same year Liverpool Football Club won the League and the England cricket team won the Ashes against Australia in emphatic fashion.
After Princess Diana’s death in the year 1996, Prince Charles married Princess Camilla in the year 2005. And here comes the big surprise. In 2005, Liverpool became the Champions of Europe yet again and The English retained the Ashes yet again. It is about time that Liverpool and England cricket team travelled to Wales and thanked the Prince for his ample support from outside.
