Just when things started getting better for Arsene Wenger’s side, it seems that they have just taken a toll for the worse. A report coming from Germany (quoted by the Metro) has now suggested that Chelsea have now joined Manchester United in the race to sign Mesut Ozil from Arsenal.
With the Gunners’ star not signing a new deal till now, his future at the Emirates is still not certain, which has been a concern for the French manager. The play-maker does not seem interested in signing a new deal with the north London giants, though the French manager will want to retain him at the Emirates. The Red Devils were the ones who were really eager to add him to their squad, with Jose Mourinho looking to reunite with his former star. However, it seems that Antonio Conte has now generated an interest in signing the World Cup winning star, as he looks to add more thrust to his midfield.
Another club that wants the former Real Madrid man is their fierce rival Barcelona, who are looking to fortify their midfield too with some experience and there were claims that the attacker had already agreed a deal with them. Despite all those stories generated from across Europe, the thing is that Ozil wants to remain in England and play in the Premier League instead, which means that he could potentially move to a rival club.
This would have been a sad news as Wenger is still trying to convince one of his top stars to extend his stay with the Londoners than join a direct title rival. Conte has had his concerns over the current Blues’ squad and wanted to sign Ross Barkley too, after adding Tiemoue Bakayoko to the squad from AS Monaco, though that did not happen.
He is in need of adding more midfielders, as he wants to have a strong bench as well and Ozil is a player that can really help him do that. On the other hand, his domestic rivals will be hoping that he moves to any other club apart from Chelsea or United, if he does indeed leave Arsenal.
