Premier League champions Chelsea are now considering letting Thibaut Courtois leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer when his current deal with the west London outfit expires. The 25-year-old keeper has a contract with the Blues which runs out in 2019 and The Sun have stated that though he is wanted by Real Madrid, Antonio Conte’s side will not be selling him to their Champions League rivals and would rather wait.
The story further adds that the Belgian international feels that the talks for a new deal with not continue till the end of the current campaign. Speaking on his future at the Bridge and about signing a new deal, the keeper pointed out the Londoners needed to talk those things out with his agent, while he would be focusing at the job in hand and playing for his team.
"That’s the thing where Chelsea must deal with my agent. I don’t think there have been any new developments. We have so many games at the moment, and I prefer to focus on the team’s games, my own performances, and there will be time enough towards the end of the season to have talks."
On the other hand, the Italian manager has already asked his board to get a deal sorted out for his first choice goalie, who he wants to retain at the club and does not want to let go off that easy. "I can say Courtois is one of the best, maybe the best goalkeeper in the world and he is a player very important for Chelsea,’ said the Italian as per Metro.
"But the renewal of the contract is a task for the club. He knows very well my opinion and my thoughts about him. I consider him one of the best."
The star who has really helped Chelsea win some major titles in recent times is obviously a wanted man, with Zinedine Zidane’s side looking to add him to their squad, after failing to sign David de Gea from Manchester United.
The club will not really want to let him go as he is quite solid in front of goal, though they might feel that they are helpless in this case and will have to do so eventually. Courtois has made 106 league appearances so far for his current club and had an amazing season with Atletico Madrid as well, while on loan between 2011-2014, winning the La Liga title.
He has been part of the team since the time when Jose Mourinho took over and has remained the first choice under Conte as well. However, he now wishes to leave with the interest from Los Blancos getting stronger and it seems that the Italian manager will have to look for an alternative in the upcoming transfer windows.
