Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois who is regarded as one of the best stoppers in the world will not entertain talks over contract extension till the end of the season. He will have only one year left on his contract when the next season starts and he has been constantly linked with a move away to Spanish giants Real Madrid. Courtois has never made it a secret that he loves living in the Spanish capital, having played for Real's rivals Atletico Madrid for a couple of seasons when he was on loan from Chelsea.
Chelsea and Courtois were involved in talks over an extension at the start of this season, but both parties could not agree over terms of the final contract. Speaking of his current contract status, Courtois frankly admitted in a press conference, "The most important thing is to perform well for myself and the team. Regarding my contract, that's something where Chelsea must deal with my agent (Christophe Henrotay). I don't think there have been any new developments."
He further added that he preferred to concentrate on the games ahead, instead of pondering over his contract at Chelsea. "We have so many games at the moment, and I prefer to focus on the team's matches, my own performances, and there will be time enough towards the end of the season to have talks."
Chelsea will now face Azerbaijani side Qarabaq in the UEFA Champions League. A win would ensure that they qualify for the Round of 16 of the tournament. A loss or a draw would give them sleepless nights, as they still have to face Atletico Madrid at home in the final group game.
The London-based outfit have had an inconsistent start to the season due to various injuries, but have found some form recently, thrashing West Bromwich Albion 4-0 away from home, after a morale-boosting 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge against Manchester United in the Premier League.
