What was a glorious night for Real Madrid turned out to be bitter-sweet one for Spanish wing back Dani Carvajal. The atmosphere in the dressing room was dampened by an untimely injury to the speedy wing-back. Carvajal, who enjoyed a prolific season for his club both domestically and in Europe, limped off the San Siro playing field with tears in his eyes as he sustained a muscle injury.
Initially he seemed to be distressed about missing the rest of the final but greater fears loomed large as the upcoming summer tournament approached. Those fears were realised when it was confirmed that the 24-year-old was going to be missing the Euros and be left on the side-lines nursing himself back to 100%.
Reports on his recovery time-frame are yet to be revealed but Spain’s 23 man squad for the summer will not include the name of Madrid’s young Champions League winner.
On speaking to the media, he expressed his frustration and disappointment on being unable to represent his country in France: “After the last call-up when I was left out, I worked a lot to be on the preliminary list, and now look. I’ve got a lot of suppressed anger,” as told to Cadena COPE’s El Partido de las 12.
