Chelsea missed a big presence in Thibaut Courtois against Manchester United yesterday and it did affect their performance one way or the other.

The Blues travelled to Old Trafford with a hope of building a new step in their title charge, however, their expectations were put down to ground as Manchester United completely outclassed them and put past two goals. Antonio Conte, on his part, had to make two changes in his squad as both Courtois and Marcos Alonso were dropped off due to respective reasons.

And now, Telegraph has reported that Courtois picked up an injury while filming a promotional basketball shoot and this led the towering Belgian to miss the all-important clash against Manchester United. The injury is quite intense and the source has further added that he might also miss the Blue's Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

Chelsea, on their part, gave no testimony as to how the former Atletico Madrid man picked up the knock, however, he was seen playing Basketball last Tuesday at the club’s training ground. Chelsea were scheduled to shoot a commercial for NBA and Courtois, alongside Asmir Begovic, Nemanja Matic, Marcos Alonso and Nathan Ake, took part in it and as per the reports, the 24-year-old landed awkwardly while taking a catch and this tend to him getting injured.

Antonio Conte too refused to speak anything of his injury:

“I think after a defeat it’s not right to go into this situation. Courtois had an injury during the week and then for this reason he wasn’t available.”

On the other hand, Alonso also missed the fixture and Conte confirmed that the Spaniard was absent due to illness.

“Alonso had a virus during the night and we tried to recover him for the game,” Conte said.
