Gazprom will initiate its Football for Friendship (F4F) international children’s social project in India for the first time. The official partner of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Gazprom, will initiate the project to develop youth football and promote tolerance to different cultures among children.
The project already has a big following among 64 participating countries and is meant to also inculcate and teach values like friendship, equality, peace, traditions, honour etc. Using football as a platform, the F4F project also has a forum event to bring young football players in communication with famous football players and media professionals to sustain a conversation on the values needed to promote inter-cultural sentiments.
The F4F will have its organizing committee select young athletes for the 2017 competition. The teams will comprise both boys and girls aged 12 years and also those with disabilities. The competition will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia, from June 26th to July 3rd. While India makes its first debut, the players coming from India will not represent themselves as one football team but instead, they will be divided into eight ‘International Friendship Teams’ to create more contact with children from different countries. On April 25th, the F4F will host thousands of children and adults to a conference and celebrate the International Day of Football and Friendship. Each participant will wear a friendship bracelet made out of blue and green threads to symbolize equality and healthy living.
