Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi has completed the striker’s merry-go-round as he has joined Borussia Dortmund on loan for the rest of the season, subject to a medical, just a day after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was reportedly spotted in London ahead of his move to Arsenal.
Aubameyang moving to Arsenal and Batshuayi moving toe Dortmund will eventually seal Olivier Giroud’s move to Chelsea and as per the Telegraph, Chelsea will pay a certain £18 million for the Frenchman. Giroud, who was on the substitute bench in Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat against Swansea recently, has surely played his last game for the Gunners as it is very obvious that Aubameyang’s arrival will take him further down the pecking order at the Emirates.
According to the aforementioned source, Aubameyang “flew to into Luton Airport from Dortmund on Tuesday afternoon and was driven straight to Arsenal’s London Colney training ground to finalize his £55m transfer.” Dortmund were initially reluctant on losing him as they firstly wanted a replacement to be announced, but it seems all is now set and done. There were early confusions over Batshuayi’s deal as some claimed it was for the rest of the season, while some claimed it was for a whopping 18 months or even more complicated; a buy option.
So according to a report from Kicker, Dortmund will be paying a mere €1.5m in this loan deal to Chelsea. The same source also added that Batshuayi has had his regular training schedule with Chelsea on Tuesday morning and was on his way to Dortmund soon after that. According to BBC, Chelsea were previously interested in a potential swap deal with Tottenham including their summer signing Fernando Llorente, but Batshuayi rejected the offer as he wanted to be a first-team attacker.
Batshuayi joined Chelsea back in April 2016 and has made a total of 53 appearances in all competition, scoring 19 goals in the process.
