Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur are considering their options of making a move for Borussia Dortmund’s 23-year-old defender Matthias Ginter, as per the reports from the Guardian. The Lilly-Whites, however, aren’t the only club looking to acquire his signature as the Julian Nagelsmann-led Hoffenheim have also shown their potential interest. Hoffenheim, on their part, are in a dire need of a centre-back mainly to fill the void left by Niklas Sule, who will move to Bayern Munich this summer.
The Die Kraichgauer are expected to launch a €17m offer for Ginter and Tottenham are ready to counter the their fee. Their manager Mauricio Pochettino has time and again praised the 23-year-old mainly due to his technical brilliance and his ability run down the defence-splitting pass. The Argentine was reportedly interested in signing last summer but Dortmund were quite reluctant to let him leave.
Ginter only came into limelight when he was named in Germany’s squad for the 2014 World Cup. Although the youngster didn’t get his chance to step onto the pitch throughout the tournament, he earned his famed €8.5m move to Borussia Dortmund under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp. He was soon rated as one of the most promising youngsters but has failed to live upto the expectations till date, and maybe, just maybe, a move to the Premier League might help his cause.
Known for his footballing genius, Ginter might initially struggle to adapt the rigours of the Premier League, but the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino is sure to guide him to reach the summit. With the Champions League games lined up for the next season as well, the Argentine is well-expected to bring in further reinforcement but majorly due to their new in-progress stadium, the Lilly-Whites will have to pull off their hands in certain negotiations. And in that case, Ginter will be a pure clincher should they manage to lure him in for the aforementioned value.
