The Premier League champions Chelsea have now suffered a major heartbreak, as they look to sign Antonio Rudiger from Serie A outfit AS Roma, with the defender suggesting that he is a Gooner at heart. The news has come as a huge surprise, with the Blues trying to sign their defensive target and get the deal sorted out, as soon as possible. Antonio Conte’s side are all set to complete a £36m deal for the defender, who has been really impressive in recent times and has caught the attention of the Italian manager, with Pep Guardiola’s team losing out eventually to them.
The 24-year-old superstar, who can play both as a centre-back and a full-back, has made a total of 17 appearances for the German national side and looks to be one for the future. And this is exactly why the top clubs are in the hunt to add him to their current squad and reinforce their back-line, prior to the start of the new campaign. However, Rudiger has just shocked everyone with his statement where he was quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying:
“I have been following Arsenal since the days of Henry and Bergkamp,” he said.
“I have always dreamed of the Premier League. I watch videos of Arsenal all the time on YouTube and I often wear the current Alexis Sanchez shirt. My heart beats for Arsenal.”
However, despite knowing what he has recently said, the Blues want him and are eager to sign, as Conte considers him part of their plans for the future. Rudiger spoke like a true Gooner and stated that he has been following the club since the days of Henry and Bergkamp and his heart belongs to the Emirates-based club.
The west London outfit have, however, beaten their fierce rivals Manchester City just recently in the race to acquire this star, who will now sign a 5 year deal with them and will commit his future to Chelsea F.C. Conte will want to defend his league title and win more trophies, as the west London side get set to make their return to the Champions League.
The statement might not really go down well with the Blues’ fans, who would certainly did not expect this from the player, whom they were eager to have at Stamford Bridge. Football is a strange game and sometimes it can produce some of the biggest surprises ever and the fans might just forgive him, once he starts playing for them. This could be one such time when he might be safe, for now. Or maybe not??
