Reports from Yahoo suggest that Ligue 1 Champions, Paris Saint-Germain have started negotiations with Diego Simeone. It is said that the PSG chief, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, is handling the talks personally as he is keen to fortify his team’s Champions League chances next season.
The current Athletico Madrid boss has led his team to two disappointing Champions League finals but they were finals nonetheless and that same brand of management, if applied to a solid squad like PSG’s could possibly result in a successful campaign for the French outfit.
The Argentine, Simeone will be replacing Laurent Blanc even though the reports are coming in after just three months of his contract extension. The Frenchman’s side, although successful domestically, have failed to ignite the same fire in Europe with quarterfinal exits in successive seasons (2014-2015,2015-2016).
In an interview Le Parisien, PSG chairman and owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi was quoted saying “If we continue like this, we will not win the Champions League. This is the time to change…”. This could mean a multitude of things ranging from hiring new staff to replenishing the squad with new talent.
