Roma legend Francesco Totti has revealed that he was close to signing for Real Madrid and further went on to say that he wanted to play alongside the players like Ronaldo, the Brazilian one.
The one-club man has been a loyal scholar for the capital club and has made close to 800 appearances, scoring 307 goals. However, his status of being a loyal servant came under threat years ago when Real Madrid came knocking on his doors. While the Roman was at his peak, he was completely ripping his opponent off, and at the same time, he was given an opportunity to join the ‘Galactic’ force of Real Madrid, but the striker decided to stay put.
“Many years ago I was really close to Real Madrid, I was pondering to leave Roma to go to Madrid,” he explained in an interview with L’Intervista.
“I was really close. I would never sign for another Italian side out of respect for the people.
“My regrets are not playing with Ronaldo, the Brazilian one, and not winning the Champions League with Roma.”
The legendary striker is 40 now and his ageing legs aren’t supporting his cause, leading to raise some serious questions about his future on the pitch. Talking about the same, Totti recently commented:
“I could be part of Roma’s board of directors in a year,” Totti told Canale 5. “Or I could still be out there on the pitch playing football.
“Or I could become an agent and try to find the next champion. I have a fair bit of experience in the footballing world.”
