In September 2016, it was reported that the ‘King Khan’ of Bollywood is ready to enter the footballing world to keep the excitement of the sport on top by buying a potential stake of Mohun Bagan.
And as per the latest reports, I-League clubs, namely, Bengaluru FC, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are in talks with IMG-Reliance and Star for their possible inclusion in the ISL. The source further states that the cash-rich ISL could feature as many as 11 clubs, and to add further excitement, it is reported that the officials of Mohun Bagan and Red Chillies Entertainment had a meeting last week about the same and the talks have been initiated.
“I know for a fact that they had met each other, and talks were initiated, but there has been no decision taken. Mohun Bagan is a club of heritage and no decision will be taken in haste to damage a tradition which has crossed centuries.
“The clubs have also met ISL officials to discuss the merger, but there is no confirmation of a date. But, from what I heard talks have been positive for Mohun Bagan.”
Bagan’s official Debanta Sarkar, in and interview to Anand Bazar Patrika, confirmed that nothing is finalized till date, but the talks about the club’s inclusion in ISL have begun.
As per SccopWhoop news, a source, close to the club, said:
“Talks are going on and progressing. They had broken down earlier but have resumed and hopefully all complications will be resolved.”
