Thibaut Courtois ever since replacing Petr Cech as Chelsea’s first choice goalkeeper has never endeared himself much to the fanbase. There has been a variety of reasons for this but the main cause has been his constant dalliances with Real Madrid.
Courtois has never shied away from the fact that he plans to one day return to the city of Madrid where he had a loan spell with Real’s fierce rivals Atletico Madrid. Courtois has never quite taken to the life in London as he did in Madrid.
Another factor has been that his kids live in Madrid and he wants to see them grow up.
Courtois has now again reaffirmed this statement saying in an interview, “I have a certain preference, I already have ideas in my head, but I have moved everything until after the World Cup. My children are the most important thing for me: I now have 1.5 years less contact with them, Face Time is beautiful, but seeing them grow up is something else, so my children will play an important role in my decision.”
Courtois now only has one year remaining in his Chelsea contract and there are serious concerns that he will not sign a new deal and leave for free when his contract expires. Many rumours have stated that Chelsea have now decided to put him on the market and will be willing to sell him if an offer of over 50 million arrives for the Belgian shot-stopper.
The Stamford Bridge-based club are planning to sign AS Roma’s Brazilian keeper Alisson who will cost over 60 million.
Only time will tell whether there will be a new No.1 between the sticks for Chelsea next season but the situation should become much more clearer after the World Cup.
