A build-up to Cristiano Ronaldo’s much-awaited return to the Theatre of Dreams was perfectly crafted, to say the least. Right from him posting his nostalgiac moments to the Devils welcoming him with open arms, his return for the second time to the venue was greeted to perfection by the fans.
Paulo Dybala scored the only goal of the fixture, as Juventus defeated Manchester United to go on top of the group H. And ironically, the Argentine’s goal came through a deflected cross of Cristiano Ronaldo. As Ronaldo headed for the tunnel after the final whistle, chants of ‘Viva Ronaldo’ was screamed across the venue. There was more coming his though.
A fan from the Stretford End jumped across the barrier to chase down his hero for a picture while being pursued by the stewards. And his luck struck as he managed to reach in time and Ronaldo, with all good intention, gave the fan what he wanted.
Following the picture, the fan was scuffed by the stewards, while Ronaldo was quick in monitoring the entire situation. Meanwhile, the game took an ugly turn for Jose Mourinho, as the Portuguese was constantly targetted by the Juventus fan. And in response, the former Inter Milan manager made a three finger gesture towards the travelling supporters, indicating the treble he won with Inter.
Meanwhile, although the scoreline remained 1-0 through the end, it didn’t reflect the quality by which these two teams were separated. And the former United midfielder Paul Scholes gave a fitting analysis of the game by saying, “Juventus have outclassed United in every area of the pitch I think.
“Credit to Dybala, he’s finished it well. I give Juventus credit for an away performance against a big club, not a big team as they once were, but they have been so composed.”
“There is such a gulf in class. When United have the ball they look nervous. Is Mourinho happy with that? Maybe he is. Who knows?
“When you’re watching that you are a little bit embarrassed.”
