Manchester United have decided to cool off their interest in signing the Atletico Madrid sensation Antoine Griezmann, as per the reports from Daily Telegraph.
It was widely reported that United were the firm favourites in landing the 26-year-old Frenchman and was even reported that they were ready to pay his €100 million (£87 million) release clause, however, they have now decided to go for a target man, instead of Griezmann. The same source has further added that their decision has nothing to do with Atletico Madrid's failure in their appeal of lifting the transfer ban, which will keep unable to bring any new players this summer.
The reason cited by the source is the long-term absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede did start off his casual training, but it is widely tipped that he will be missing the major part of the next season. Besides that, rumours have also gathered stating that his future at the club is under heavy scrutiny and all this has left United with an only option in Marcus Rashford.
Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann has dropped a massive hint ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window by saying that there is a six out of 10 chance of him joining Manchester United this summer.
The 26-year-old Frenchman came as a guest on the French TV programme Quotidien and the anchor asked him about the possibility of him moving to Manchester United, to which he said it is 'possible'. He was further asked about the probability on the scale of one to 10 about the same, and he simply replied; “Six.”
Furthermore, Griezmann himself revealed that everything regarding his future will be decided in a couple of weeks. “I should know more in the next two weeks,” he added. There is no denying the fact that Manchester United looking to bring him in at Old Trafford and if the reports are to believed, then they are ready to pay his hefty £85m release clause as well.
This speculation was completely labyrinthine a month ago as there was no confirmation as to whether Diego Simeone will stay with Atletico or not. And to add further to it, there were reports claiming should the Argentine gaffer decides to stay put, chances of Griezmann leaving the Los Rojiblacos would be minimised. However, with the Frenchman's recent statement, it can be believed that the condition of Simeone's stay at the club has now gone down the drain.
