Manchester United are still struggling to reach the heights which Sir Alex Ferguson took them to after the Scot retired after over 20 glorious years. They tried to have a long-term vision by hiring David Moyes who was SAF's personal choice as his successor. But it did not work out for United and Moyes was fired before completing even one season in charge. They have then hired Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, both proven winners at the top level. But a constant gripe among the United supporters have been that United are not playing attacking football which was seen under Ferguson. Had he been under charge, the United line-up could have looked completely different as the club were lining up three exciting young talents from Borussia Dortmund, very much keeping the future in mind. A former assistant of Ferguson Rene Meulensteen has claimed, "We had possible scouting meetings, possible players we were looking at in terms of trying to build a picture of what we think we need. All that was ongoing. We looked at a few German players. There were a number of players but we never got that specific to really target them.
