In the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, one of the most iconic and controversial games took place in the quarter-finals between Argentina and England. The match was dominated by none other than Diego Maradona who scored two goals of great contrast in a 2-1 win. The first goal was scored with his hand which has been infamously dubbed as the ‘Hand of God’. The second one though was unarguably the greatest goal in the history of the World Cup and probably the greatest ever goal scored in the game. This goal has been given the moniker of ‘The Goal of the Century’. The goal is also remembered for Victor Hugo Morales’ passionate commentary which when translated to English, reads, “Maradona has the ball, two mark him, Maradona touches the ball, the genius of world soccer, dashes to the right, leaves the third, is going to pass to Burruchaga. It’s still Maradona! Genius! Genius! Genius! Ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta … and goooooaaaal! Gooooooaaaaal! I want to cry! Dear God! Long live soccer! Gooooooaaaaalllllll! Diegoal! Maradona! It’s enough to make you cry, forgive me. Maradona, in an unforgettable run, in the play of all time. Cosmic kite! What planet are you from? To leave in your wake so many Englishmen? So that the whole country is a clenched fist shouting for Argentina? Argentina 2, England 0. Diegoal, Diegoal, Diego Armando Maradona. Thank you God, for soccer, for Maradona, for these tears, for this. Argentina 2, England 0.”
