Fernando Torres had a fruitful tenure for Liverpool Football Club after joining the 5-time European Champions from his boyhood club Atletico Madrid. Torres scored 81 goals for the club in a span of 3 and a half years. However, on this day in 2009, Torres scored his 50th goal for the club in the league. The goal came under tricky circumstances. It was raining heavily throughout the game and Torres did not have a sniff at the goal at Villa Park. Torres capitaised on a rebound and smashed it past American goal keeper Brad Friedel. Liverpool won the match 1-0. Torres got to his 50th goal in his 72nd appearance in the Premier League, which is a club record, surpassing Ian Rush, who got to the landmark in 84 matches.
