2016 F1 Driver’s World Champion Nico Rosberg, who announced his shock retirement from the sport a few days after winning his maiden world championship with Mercedes, has stated that he is looking forward to be involved in racing in any other capacity than racing.
Rosberg after years of efforts, was finally able to beat his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton to the world championship and soon retired afterwards, claiming he had realized a life-long dream.
Rosberg has now stated that he looks forward to being involved in racing in some capacity. Rosberg told German newspaper Bild, “I’m looking for new ways and I’m positively relaxed about it. One thing is for sure: I want to stick with racing in some capacity, whatever it may be. But I won’t be coming back as a driver, no way. I’m thankful even though I put my life upside down by retiring from the sport. But I followed my heart and I’m totally happy to close my personal Formula One book with winning the world title. I achieved everything I set out to achieve. Now, my new life will be as big a challenge [as F1 was]. I want to be as successful. But now I can decide on my own what I want to do and I’m not being driven as much.”
Rosberg over the years has brought great success to the Mercedes team and it won’t be surprising to see him back in the team in an advisory capacity.
