Hockey fans in the country have turned their attention towards the 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup, which is currently taking place at the Kalinga Stadium in the city of Bhubaneshwar. This is only the third instance after 1982 and 2010 that the country is hosting a hockey event of such magnitude. 2008 Youth Commonwealth games
The third edition of the games was held in Pune and the opening ceremony took place at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex of the city. To commemorate the hosting of the event, the Indian postal department brought out a miniature sheet which showed the mascot’ jigrr’ and stickers of Wrestling, Badminton, and Athletics.
2010 Commonwealth Games Stamp
The Indian postal department celebrated the occasion by bringing out a special stamp to commemorate the opening ceremony of the 19th Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. This was the first time that the country hosted a game of such huge magnitude. The design of the stamp has fireworks on background, which was seen during the opening ceremony at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. It also has stickers of sports like Badminton, Archery, Hockey and Athletics.
2018 Hockey World Cup stamp
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled commemorative postage stamps on Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018 on Wednesday. Five postage stamps depicting players with hockey sticks, ball and a replica of world cup have been released along with a miniature sheet on the Hockey Men’s World Cup series. The stamp is written in both English and Hindi also feature hockey world cup mascot, turtle Olly.
