Indian hockey superstar PR Sreejesh has made the sensational claim that he discovered the popular dance move, the ‘lungi dance’, long before Shah Rukh Khan made it popular in his movie ‘Chennai Express’. The captain of the Indian hockey team made this claim in an interview with Firstpost.
Sreejesh is only 28 currently but has established himself as a senior figure and a dressing room leader in the team. All these qualities have led to him being handed the captaincy of the national side. Despite his obvious leadership qualities, the Indian goalkeeper also has a lighter side to his personality and is quite the jovial guy, when he is off the field when interacting with fans and the media.
When asked about mastering the art of the ‘lungi dance’, Sreejesh claimed that he had already learned the steps of the popular dance move, before the whole world did. Sreejesh revealing a hilarious anecdote, said, “When I joined the national team, I used to wear a lungi to bed. (Because of Adrian D’Souza, I moved on from lungi to a boxer). In fact, back in our village in Kerala, we wear lungis casually and while hanging out with friends too. In fact, dancing to Tamil music is best done in a lungi. When Shah Rukh (Khan) did it, it became famous. Nobody noticed us when we danced in our rooms in lungis to motivate ourselves or in the dressing room just to get into the rhythm before a big match.”
Sreejesh, with his wit, continues to win the hearts of millions of Indians.
