In a country where Cricket is followed by fans religiously, a sport like Kabaddi is suddenly earning recognition. Pro Kabaddi League has been the game changer for the sport in terms of money and talent, with new stars emerging every season. Once such player who has caught the eyeballs this season is a player from Mangalore, Karnataka, by the name of Sachin Vittala.
Vittala who plays as a left corner for Gujarat Fortune Giants initially started as a pacer but soon shifted his loyalty towards a fast-paced game like Kabaddi. Hailing from Moodabidri, a town in Mangalore, Vitaala’s family always wanted him to focus on cricket due to lack of recognition for Kabaddi.
Speaking in an interview with Sportkeeda, he said, “In my village back in Mangalore, cricket is a craze. My family always insisted that I look for a career in cricket since kabaddi did not have too much scope. My younger brother also took up the sport but quit playing and has now settled in Dubai.”
Second among the trio of brothers, his cricket career came to a standstill after his family went into financial trouble. Vittala in his interview said that he played cricket ever since childhood and kabaddi came calling only once he reached the high school level.
“I started kabaddi to join a university through sports quota and completed my B.Com degree from Alva’s College in Moodabidri. I played cricket at College. The skill which I possessed in cricket I have brought on to the mat. Also, my love for fitness has helped me move quickly on the mat.”
The 28-year-old is not new to PKL (Pro Kabaddi League) having played for Puneri Paltans in the second season, where he played as a raider.
“This is my second season in the Pro Kabaddi League. In the previous season (second season with the Puneri Paltan), I was scared to play but now I have gained a lot more confidence. Every match feels like the same and I have settled into a positive atmosphere at the Pro Kabaddi League.” he said.
For a person who is a manager at Vijaya Bank, Pro Kabaddi League has completely changed his life. Now, he is getting all the recognition after years of hard work. With some strong shows in the ongoing season, Vittala will be hoping to represent the Indian team as well in near future.
