Maria Sharapova is arguably the most well-renowned female athlete in the world of sports. She is constantly ranked amongst the highest paid athletes in the world and has often topped the chart as the highest paid female tennis player in the world. Her popularity and brand value off the court is a direct result of her successes on it. Sharapova has won innumerous titles in her career, including 5 Grand Slam crowns. She is also a successful entrepreneur off it, running her own successful candy line and writing a bestselling book.
Despite being such a recognizable figure, Sharapova is still striving hard to win titles on the tennis court and add to her already enviable collection of titles. Tennis being such a demanding sport, the players always have to be at their best in order to stay competitive and fitness plays a huge part in it.
Sharapova in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar revealed how she keeps herself fit through a strict diet and workout regime.
On her diet, she said, “I’m very attuned to the type of fuel I put in my body, but I also allow myself a little indulgence.”
She also revealed that she followed a rigorous workout regime which allowed her to stay in shape. “I train five or six times a week for six hours a day with my trainer, Yutaka Nakamura, or one of my coaches. Playing professional tennis requires major dedication. If you take more than three days off, you can start to lose lean muscle.”
Her workout schedule generally includes starting off with warm-up and stretching exercises. She then goes off for a jog on the beach which is followed by two hours of tennis practice and core exercises. She also is a firm believer in pilates and also participates in interval exercises on bikes, in the hills or on sand dunes.
