Tennis star Sania Mirza, who hit the gym 3 months after a C-section delivery of her baby boy, looks to have taken camp in the fitness mode these days, giving everyone the ‘mommy’ goals. The Padma Bhushan awardee is sweating it all out, with her workouts going on for as long as 5 hours a day. The tennis ace is spending an ample amount of time in the gym and is determined to rebuild herself in terms of fitness.
Mother to 5-month-old Izhaan, Sania has been posting pictures and videos of her new workout sessions diligently on her social media, since the start of the year. She seems to be sticking to her New Year Resolution.
In an exclusive chat with The Times of India, she spoke about her workout regime and healthy living.
She said, “I go to the gym for four hours, maybe a little more, every day. That’s also because I am rebuilding. I always train that way.”
When asked about her losing the ‘mommy weight’, the star player candidly replied, “I was on a healthy diet, which was how I was able to lose 22 kilos in 3 months. It’s been challenging, obviously, but also self-realizing in many ways. I still have a little bit to go but I am almost there.”
She has also been seen doing Pilates. She recently posted a picture of her doing Pilates on a Cadillac reformer, which especially strengthens the core of the body. “I do a lot of core, because that is the toughest. I split my training into two sessions. It’s weights and strength in morning and in the evening it is more plyometrics and cardio,” said Sania.
In the interview, she further said,-“I’m extremely determined. A lot of people came up to me and said, how have you done this, we didn’t think you would be able to do this. Healthy is the way to go in life. Regardless of whether or not I play Tennis, I would not feel good about myself if I looked into the mirror and saw that I didn’t look or feel a certain way.”
She used hashtags “#slowlybutsurely #Mummahustle” on her workout posts, which show how strongly the player is strengthening herself to get back to the court. Reason behind these hashtags, as she explains, is to show that even as a mother you can be fit and can live a certain life.
The star player also strongly objects body shaming and wants to change the mindset where people judge women on their weight and physical appearance, especially post pregnancy.
