US tennis star Sloane Stephens sailed through to semi-finals after defeating Russia’s Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 6-1 on Court Philippe Chatrier. Sloane, the World No. 10 will clash with Madison Keys, making it an all-US semi-final at the French Open 2018.
In the other quarter-final clash, Russia’s Maria Sharapova will face Spaniard-Venezuelan Garbiñe Muguruza on Wednesday. Sharapova got a walkover into the quarter-finals as Serena Williams withdrew from the highly-anticipated match in less than an hour before the match. Serena revealed that she took the decision due to pectoral injury that struck her for the first time two days before the quarter-final match.
Stephens, who is said to be in the frenemy territory with Sharapova, took to Instagram post her quarter-finals victory and posted her winning-moment photo from the match. However, the caption of the post was hinting more at Sharapova’s direct entry to quarter-finals than her own victory.
Stephens’ post was an obvious dig at Sharapova though she didn’t name or tag her. Other the other hand, Sloane and Madison, who are good friends off the court, will set off a friendly semi-final clash. The other crucial quarter-final will be played between World No. 1 Simona Halep and World No. 13 Angelique Kerber on June 6, Wednesday.
