Swiss maestro Roger Federer cruised past his Argentine counterpart Del Potro – 6-4, 6-4 – in the round of 16 of Miami Open to enter the into the fourth round of the competition.
The 35-year-old’s quest to reach the summit of ATP ranking has continued in fine fashion as he won the Australian Open and Indian Wells earlier this year. Since coming back on the court following his six-month injury layoff, the Swiss star has only lost once. He was in total control against Del Potro for the majority of time and will now join his compatriot Stan Wawrinka in the next round.
The 31-year-old star defeated Tunisian Tunisian Malek 6-3, 6-3 and will now meet Alexander Zverev, who defeated John Isner, in the fourth round. Federer, on the other hand, will battle it out against the Spaniard Bautista Agut, who came from behind to beat Sam Querrey 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Furthermore, Nick Kyrgios – who was pulled out of the Indian Wells – defeated Ivo Karlovic 6-4, 6-7 (7/4), 7-6 (7/2) in an epic hard-fought battle.
Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych got the better of Gilles Muller 6-3, 6-4, while David Goffin made a brilliant comeback against Diego Schwartzman to beat the Argentine 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
