Roger Federer has revealed his special connection with Australia and especially the city of Sydney. The Swiss maestro has revealed that Sydney is the place where he would first meet and kiss his future wife, Mirka Vavrinec.
Federer first met Mirka during the 2000 Sydney Olympics and their love story has set an example around the globe of successful sporting love stories.
Federer recalling how he met Mirka, said, “We spent two weeks together, that’s how we got to know each other and on the last day before we left, we kissed for the first time in Sydney. So Australia is a big place for me to come back to.”
The pair has been going strong since they met and got married in 2009. The pair also has two sets of twins; twin girls Myla Rose and Charlene Riva and twin boys Leo and ‘Lenny’ Lennart.
Mirka, who herself was a tennis player, retired from professional tennis due to a persistent foot injury but is often seen attending her husband’s matches and cheering him on.
Federer has another reason to love Australia too, as some of his greatest triumphs have come in Melbourne at the Australian Open, where he is a five-time champion, with his latest victory coming in the 2017 edition, at the age of 35.
