The world is eagerly awaiting what seems to be the biggest fight in the history of the UFC, the dream match between Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov and Irish superstar Conor McGregor. Many have waited for a long time to see this match become a reality and the interest has only been peaked with this match signaling the comeback of McGregor in the octagon after a brief foray into professional boxing.
And the ‘Notorious One’ is making sure that he cashes in on all the interest surrounding the fight as he will be reportedly earning a whopping $65 million from the fight.
The claim has been made by McGregor himself, speaking on MMA journalist Ariel Helwani’s podcast. McGregor said, “It’s a tasty, tasty, record-breaking deal. My team and myself have done a lot of great work — and with the UFC — we’ve done a lot of good work. It’s give or take [nine figures]. The Mayweather fight was nine figures but we’re almost there, it’s a good, solid eight figures — halfway there.”
McGregor further added in his famous trash-talking style, “We’re all very happy with where we’re at. It’s not what the Mayweather fight was, but it’s a good halfway there. And to fight this bum, this flat-footed fool that everyone thinks is all this and all that. He’s stuck in the mud and he’s going to freeze in there. We’re very happy with the deal.”
This is not the most which McGregor as earned though, as he reportedly made a cool $100 million from his boxing match against Floyd Mayweather, a year ago.
The match between McGregor and Khabib will take place in Las Vegas on October 6 and will be contested for the Lightweight Championship, a title which McGregor never lost, but was stripped off for trying to foray into the world of boxing.
